Social Drinks: - Impact of it in “Self Esteem Need’’ of employee.

Social Drinks: - Impact of it in “Self Esteem Need’’ of employee.

Mr. Dinesh Bhatta is working at one of the reputed Organization. While working in organization, he has faced one situation.

If we look the corporate culture Wine also called as internationally accepted social drinks which is accepted by almost all hierarchy level . Even it is seems, many organisation also provide some refreshments allowances in budget for party celebration.

Even it has also been observed, when staff stays/ sit with customers for party. Social drinks is taken by all but the bill is normally paid by customer (Indirect benefits taken), which the new name has been given by us “Business meeting or business deal" and has been accepted in corporate life.

However, when the wine become habit to an individual, how the staff are managing their life expenses from their salary " It's an big question about integrity..

In economics to maintain life style, there are two principle.

1. Either increase your income for higher expenses to maintain good life style

2. Minimize your expenses if you don't have high income to maintain life style

For corporate job, almost second practice is good one because almost we give 10hrs a day to this job and we don't have any time to do more.

So if a wine becomes a habit and in lower amount how integrity can be managed, it is itself a big question.

However in corporate life, this type of staff are liked by all because they are quite "Social" and this type of staff are good in making personal relationship.....

Saying ethics from mouth and to have ethics in Behaviour’s is different things.

Also it has been seen, a fresh person who had never taken wine in his student’s life after entering into Job gets humiliated by various words from colleague and line manager.

Mr. Dinesh had faced problem from colleague and from line manager for this. It was his personal beliefs that he don't like to drink but his friends although knew his habit from years to year.

But when it comes to party, they forget their ethics and start to say. Let’s drink wine from today. Have a small drinks.. Corporate life will not go more without drinks.

Lesson: - Every individual has to respect belief of other.  Organization should make culture, no one should de-respect employee beliefs (By words or from body language)

Benefits of Informal Communication

Where the relationship is made of respect, there create gap in open communication..

Example: In organisation if a staff says sir to boss..he always tries to give respect and present and work in formal way only....

It has been observed when a manager speak informally to staff, gap of communication is lesser.. Subordinate staff become emotionally attached and want to give more time to organisation....

Respect is an Illusion

In Job Sector, We spend our life to earn money but we earn limited money from our Salary.. Side by side ,we always expect respect from our customers..

If we look towards contemporary society, people give us artificial respect so that they can make their work done fast.

After their work is completed, very few customers miss us.. This has become the trend of contemporary environment and almost we have accepted it because we also do the same.

But why we have not understand , Respect is just Illusion and why we are expecting it. Because of expectations of respect we are missing many things.

Need expectation

From the concept of Maslow's Theory of Hierarchy, we can see why conflict / cold war / war/ misunderstanding takes place in Organisation..

Its simply due to person achievement of needs... Some person may be in lower level need and some may be in higher level needs...

As per my personal observations, it has been seen a person who is in various stages of needs , he creates perception, all the person / Staff are in the same need....

For example, if a manager is in esteem needs, he sees all other subordinate staff are also in same need (esteem need) and tries to treat or deal in the same way...But in Actual life , it may differ from person to person...

If manager understand the need of employee and deal in proper way, he can almost handle the internal conflict in organisation..

Job is not easy

If we look this episode as managerial perspective and create empathy on our self.. Many things can be learn

* Time Management

*Alonessness

*Money is not everything

*Human have emotions, feeling.

*Married life and happy married life are two different things..

*Mind should be control for progress

*Importance of family life.

*Problem of sitting alone..

*Mental Problem of Students during Students life.

* How technology can easily create communication...

*Life is not easy, We job holder have sacrificed many things for our job..

*Many staff leaves home and stay far from family...

*Nepalese HR have not realized.

Understanding of Maslow 's Theory of hierarchy in Nepalese Paradigm

Understanding of Maslow 's Theory of hierarchy in Nepalese Paradigm

Maslow's Theory of Hierarchy, one of the most accepted motivational theory used by various organisation and individuals for motivation. Motivation may be for own or for the team.

Some facts of Maslow’s theory of Hierarchy:-

1. Human Need has been divided in five levels .Those needs are physiological needs, safety needs, love and belonging needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs.

2. Need has also been differentiate into two order. Lower order need and Higher order need.

Human wants to achieve next level of need if he achieved the first need. (Achievement of need arises steps to steps).  Example, Human wants to achieve safety needs if his physiological needs is achieved or so on.

Limitation of Maslow’s theory of Hierarchy:-

·         As per this theory human Achievement of need arises steps to steps. However in real life, a person who is in physiological need, esteem needs may also arise at same time.

Some Facts of Our Country which One Individual has to keep in Mind before understanding this theory:-

·         Nepal is small country, where an Individual cannot hide his history. In India, People can hide their past due to its population and area. A person has own perception that he has hide his history but in practical life, there are some person who likes to keep history of other people.

·         In Our Country, if a person does unethical work which is not accepted in society and it’s exposed Publicly, It may be his tag for his life time. (For example: - A person who has done crime and had gone to jail), however he has improved himself. The past history (A person going to jail) is remembered by the people of society for a long period of time.

·         Benefits are of two types. Direct Benefits: - Money( Cash) and Indirect benefits: - Gifts, Wine , party, etc. ( Not in the form of cash)

However, few points should be addressed in Nepalese Working Environment for employee motivation as to reduce individual conflict/ misunderstanding

Relationship between Individual need and Organizational Need.

As every human starts their life from physiological need and gradually shifts to other need as his need gets achieved. However it has been observed when an individual reaches to next level of need he forget/ intents to forget his past thought/ behavior occurred while achieving his first need. Example, when an individual joins the organization, he gets salary in lower amount. In that period it has also been observed, some employee may expect benefits from customer (Direct or indirect benefits) to fulfill his basic need. But the same person when he reach to esteem need, he forget his past and go for the process of Controlling to achieve his present performance (to show his performance in-front of organization).

Impact of Forgetting of Past, Using of more Controlling tools and Conflict between staff.

As mention above, the history of Individuals cannot be hide in our country. In Organization there may be various reasons for conflict however one of the reason is person desire of need achievement also. For example, a corrupted person in his past (When he was a lower level employee) when he speaks about ethics at present (When the same person is in higher Position). Due to positional-fear the subordinated staff may not defend his statement in front of him, however backbiting and disrespect towards his (By not following him) can be there in organization. So every manager is suggested to point on himself (Should not forget) his past before giving statement or to use the controlling tools in the organization. If such process is done repeatedly, conflict may arise.

Differentiate between Leaders and Manager from the Concept of Maslow's Theory of Hierarchy

"All Leaders are Manager But all Managers are not Leader".

We can get many differences between Leaders and Managers in books. However in practical life it has been observed, there are many Managers in the organization but few leaders are only observed. Why the staff in-front of Managers likes to gives artificial respect but in the back of him, backbiting is done. One of the reasons is his History. History can be social or it may financial issues.

Leaders have followers, the reason behind it is, he always keep himself in proper direction or  no any individuals has any point to blame on him ( Social or financial). When there is no any point to blame, automatically people are follower towards the leaders.

Benefits In Organisation

There are two types on benefits taken by staff in organisation...

1. Direct benefits ( money taken as brief)

2. Indirect benefit ( sex , wine or other benefits).

As per my observations, i found direct benefits is far better than indirect benefits..

If money is taken as benefits its one time deal..If wrong work or decision is done its just one time and deal end it..

If Indirect benefit is taken it hits on human emotions and person ( customer) can take long term profit for it...
